Barn conversion from 17th century visited by original pilgrim on The Mayflower up for sale

An historic barn conversion almost certainly visited by one the original Pilgrim Fathers who travelled to New England on The Mayflower is up for sale with estate agency Nicol & Co.

St Peter’s Barns is a Grade II-listed property dating back to the 17th century that is located on the picturesque St Peter’s Church Lane in Droitwich Spa, Worcestershire.

Edward Winslow was one of the original Pilgrim Fathers who landed at Cape Cod, now called Provincetown Harbor, in 1620, establishing the Plymouth Colony, and he is accredited with creating and was present at the very first ‘Thanksgiving’ ceremony there in 1621.

Winslow was born in Droitwich Spa in 1595 and was baptised at St Peter’s Church, next to the barns, which he is thought highly likely to have visited as a child.

Dan Peace, sales manager at Nicol & Co, explained that the spacious conversion at St Peter’s Barns, where planning permission exists to develop the remaining barns into separate dwellings, is on the market for £1,595,000.

Mr Peace said: “We are proud to be offering what is a unique opportunity to own this historic barn conversion, nestled on the picturesque St Peter’s Church Lane in Droitwich Spa.

“This exceptional detached property offers the rare chance to own a piece of 17th-century history brimming with character and charm, and with a blend of period features and contemporary functionality.

“There is currently approximately 3,283 sq ft of living space and an additional 1,668 sq ft of unconverted barn space, with planning permission for further residential development in place.

“The property’s original extension and conversion was carried out in 1981, with the interior of the barn thoughtfully designed to create a flexible and spacious layout, ideal for family life and entertaining.

“There are original beams, exposed brickwork and other period details throughout, celebrating the building’s historic character.

“The heart of the home is the kitchen, complemented by a garden/dining room that floods the space with natural light, with a separate dining room and lounge, plus a second kitchen and utility room, and two downstairs toilets.

“Upstairs is a versatile room that can be used as an office or family room, and five generously sized bedrooms, including a luxurious master suite with an en-suite bathroom, a further family bathroom and shower room.

“There is a large garage and courtyard parking outside, providing ample space for multiple vehicles.

“The unconverted barn space with planning permission offers an exciting development opportunity, whether for further accommodation, a home office or creative pursuits.

“The property is surrounded by the charm of Droitwich Spa, with the Lido Park just moments away, the location combining scenic beauty with access to local amenities, schools and excellent transport links.”

Mr Peace added: “This remarkable property has timeless appeal and is ready for its new custodian to write the next chapter in its storied history.”
