Everything from Pokeman things to 1960’s record playing star in ‘The Big Worcestershire Garage Sale’

Second hand Pokéman toys and a stylish 1960s record player were among the star bargains in ‘The Big Worcestershire Garage Sale’ organised by Nicol & Co at the weekend.

A roaring trade in cute characters like Pikachu was enjoyed by residents at a sheltered accommodation unit in Shrubbery Avenue in Worcester, who raked in more than £200 from keen-eyed shoppers.

Over in Leabank Drive in Worcester, householders were spinning the ancient vinyl on their record player for most of the day until it sold for a decent amount as a present for a local grandad.

Matt Nicol, managing director of estate agents Nicol & Co, who arranged the mass community event on Saturday 14 June, explained that these were typical of the many bargains that emerged on the day.

Mr Nicol said: “A great day was had at garage sales across Worcestershire as the sun shone despite the weather predictions.

“There was busy footfall around all streets that hosted garage sales, with so many bargain hunters circulating that it was impossible to put a figure on how many people took part.

“But we do know that our interactive map of streets taking place was viewed 15,000 times on the day, which gives some indication of how popular the day was.

“From second hand Pokéman toys to a stylish 1960s record player, bargain hunters uncovered some great finds.

“Other highlights on the day included local charity swimming group PodLife setting up a sale in Worcester city centre to raise money to build a new pool for children with special educational needs.

“Everyone who took part in event had the option of donating a portion of their sales or making a direct contribution to St Richard’s Hospice, with unwanted items also collected by the hospice.

“By the end of the day, vans were packed with items that went off to be sorted at the hospice’s warehouse.

“There were also loads of Gift Aid forms filled in and donations are already starting to filter through onto the dedicated Just Giving page, on top of the £23,000 we’ve already donated via our community fund.”

A record number of 129 streets took part in ‘The Big Worcestershire Garage Sale’ this year, offering everything from antiques and collectibles to clothing, toys homeware and other unwanted goodies.

Mr Nicol added: “What was really wonderful was that so many householders had joined in the garage sale event for the third year in a row, with plenty of them saying they would be ready for a fourth next year.”
